Solutions of problems with first degree equations

Article Abstract by: easymath

Original Author: hugo ramirez

You have set the equation of the problem and then make simple
operations.
Examples:
A. Three times
a number less 12 is 24. Which is that number?
If x is the number, then:
3x – 12 = 24
3x = 24 + 12
3x = 36
x = 36/3
x = 12
Answer: The number is 12.
B. 36 is what percent of 80 ?
If x is the number, then:
80x/100 = 36
Clear away x,  then x = 36
(100)/80
x = 3600/80
x = 45
Answer: 36 is the 45% of 80.
C. Seven times a number more six is equal to 62.
If x is the number, then:
7x + 6 = 62
7x = 62 – 6
7x = 56
x = 56/7
x = 8
Answer: The number is 8.
D. 28 less four times a number is -16.
If x is the number, then:
28 – 4x = -16
-4x = -16 – 28
-4x = - 44
x = -44/-4
x = 11
Answer: The number is 11.
