Universities United Kingdom and it focuses on the need to fund properly the research particularly here in the UK for the UK to win the Race To The Top rather than compete in The Race to The Bottom. Professor Steve Smith continues with a series of comparisons between the UK and other countries and Universities in those other countries and cross compares the amount of funding spent say, in European Universities in comparison to here and the Professor fears that it is a short term solution to CUT their Universities to make ends meet as HMG are not confronting the challenges of tomorow for the UK's Universities. The Professor has a planned response to the need to express agreement with Britain's debt but is worried about short term cuts now leading to long term financial disasters for the UUK in the future. Professor Smith commneted on the significant contribution Professor Ian Diamond had made is making and will make in the context of this speech in relation to the UUK.
