Experiments and Observations on Electricty

Book Summary   by:Kartel     Original Author: Benjamin Franklin
ª

Benjamin Franklin was quite an indefactigable, the most versatile and famous personality both in the field of science, politice and beyond;being a printer ,writer, inventor, scientist, diplomat, postmaster, and a business man.

His humble background and the fact that he never did finshed his former education,as he had left the expensive education in colonial New England at an early age of ten,did nothing to bar him from satisfying his taste for knowledge as he single-handledly taugth himself arithmetic, grammar, philosophy and navigation through the books he borrowed from his friends even as he was bound as an apprentice to his older broher print shop.

He went ahead to invent bifocals,a new hip anchor,a wood stove,an armchair that could be turned into a library steps, and many other things .Among his famous mottoes as written in the almanac of yearly publication "POOR RICHARDS ALMANACK "that became the most popularly read material after the bible in the 1732 was;" Early to bed arly to rise makes a man healthywealthy, and wise".This expressed his ideas about improving oneself.

However among his earliest moving achievements were an experiment with electricity. He developed much of the basic vocabulary of electicity ,including terms like"battery", "conductor",and 'electrician".His most famous, was his kite flying experiment .The expriment proved ligthening as a form of electricity. He followed this discovery by inventing ligthening rods, which now made popular as ligthening protection to buildings on which it's mounted. These rods attract and direct lightenings into the ground, thereby reducing the risks of fire outbreaks. This discovery lead him to publish his now most reputable work on electricity in ; EXPERIMENTS AND OBSERVATIONS ON ELECTRICITY MADE AT AMERICA IN PHILADEPHIA .

This work got his follow scientist especilly in Europe really excited as they all tried experimenting it ,causing a swedish casualty who died while exprimenting with kite flying version of BenjaminFranklin .Today Benjamin Franklin had never been forgotten.

    Perpetuates Myths

BF invented and published instructions for "drawing" electricity from a cloud with a tall metal pole/wire. The French tried it on May 10th, 1752 and proved that lightning was electricity. In 1752 news moved slowly across the Atlantic. BF did not know it had been proven, nor did he have a tall metal rod, but he decided to launch a metal wire high into the air by attaching one to the top of a kite to get it high enough. The metal wire "drew" electricity from the cloud, down the kite line, and to the key. It was never "hit" by lightning. And Franklin didn't prove it first.

A sincere effort, but badly written.

The writer of this abstract has researched their subject and provided a good summary of Benjamin Franklin's life and achievements. However, the only let down is how poorly written this abstract is. There are a lot of simple grammar mistakes and misused words which make it sound like a primary school class essay. I encourage the writer to keep writing abstracts, but sometimes it does not hurt to have a friend read over your work and review it - checking for sense and spelling - before you submit it to Shvoong for publication. Good luck.
