The fundamental treatise on radioactivity as published in 1910 by the indelible gem of a woman ,mother ,wife, scientice, professor, chemists, mathematician, mentor and an achiever of monumental strides in all endeaviors as it relates to physics and science of radioactive elements .And a recieptient of two distingushing Nobel Price, in appreciation of her contributions to physic;Marie Curie, cannot be over emphaized in this little piece of mine .
From her remarkable humble background , togerther with her equally prodigiouse memory ,which earned her a gold medal on completion of her secondary education at the russian Lyc'ee.One could hadly had given her a chance on survivial lest dream of the gigantic strides she had so far accomplished i the field of physics , chemistry and medicine as it relates to her astute dedication towards unraveling the mysteries hidden in radioactive elements.
Marie Sklodowskka's impressive run in the field of physics was quite commendable especially during JULY 25 1895 , WHEN SHE MARRIED pierre Curie , which equally marked a turning point in their lives . The dicovery of polominium ,in the summer of 1898 , and that of radium a few months later . Folowing Henri Becquerel's discovery <1896> of a new phenomenon .
Marie Curie , looking for somthing to wrte as thesis ,decided tofind out if the property discovered in uranium was to be found in the other matters. This came to be true for thorium at the same time as G.C S chmidt ,did.
Mrie Curie ,togerther with her husbandand a pupil of Piere Curie , a chemist ; A . Debierne were able to obtain pure radium in it's metallic state . As a result of this discovery , she recieved her doctorate of scince in June 1903, and with Piere, was awarded the Davy medal of Royal SOCIETY .Same year thye shared with Becquerel the Nobel Price for the discoveryof radioactivity .
When on the May 13,1906,she was appointed to the professorship that had been left vacant on her husband's death;she was the first woman to teach in the sorbonne .In 1911,a year later, she ws awarded the Nobel Price in Chemistry;for isolating pure radium.
With the help of her daugther Ire'ne, she devoted herself to the developement of the use of X-radiography, while the world war raged on .At the highest point of her fame, and ,from 1922, as a member of the Academy of MEDCINE ,SHE DEVOTED HER RESOURSES TO THE STUDY OF THE CHEMISTRY OF RADIOACTVE SUBSTANCES AND THE MEDICAL APPLICATION OF THESE SUBSTANCES .
In 1921, she made a triumphant journey to the U.S in the conpany of her two daugthers,Ire'ne and E've , where President Wrren G. Harding presented her with a gram of radium bougth as the collection among American women .She was later madea member of the International Commission on intellectual co-operation by the Council of the League of nations. The accumulation of intense radioactives resourses, was one of her astounding achievements, not only in the treatment of ilness but also to maintain an abundant supply for researches in nuclear physics.
A stockpile these elements, contributed to the success of experiments made by others around 1930,and in particular of those made by Ire'ne Curie togerther with her husband Fre'd'eric Joliot. It was their work that laid to the neutron been dicovered by James Chadwick, and artificial radioactivity in 1934 by Ire
ne and Fre'de'ric Joliot-Curie.
Sadly, Marie Curie died of leukemia caused by the actions radioactivity and recently in 1995,her ashes were enshrined in the Panth'eon in Paris;the first for a woman in history to be posthumously honoured.
