YOUR FINGER PRINT CAN REVEAL YOUR IDENTITY
The latest invention in field of science is the system that can detect a persons drinking, smoking or other addictions through fingerprints. A leading set of scientists and experts in the university of East Anglia in Norwich have designed a system that is capable of detecting cotinine. This is a metabolite of nicotine, as contact with tobacco is not enough to provide evidence.
In this method to investigate or confirm the presence of cotinine, the fingerprint is coated with a solution containing gold nanoparticles and other attached antibodies. A second antibody that binds to cotinine is then marked with a florescent dye. This helps to detect the different addictions in different people. For example a smoker if tested through this will reveal a florescent glow in the ridge patterns. This innovation will come in handy not only to test on antibodies but also could be used to detect performance-enhancing drugs in sports. Also, forensic experts, to collect fingerprints in the place of crime, could use it. This novel technique will not only help to identify a smoker, an avid coffee drinker or a drug addict.
