Assam girl develops gadget to make mobile charger redundant
Now and then, we get news in all sorts
of media about the microwave radiation of mobile phones that can affect badly our health. Now this radiation could be the base of a new discovery that would eliminate the need of battery charger to recharge cell phone batteries.
Asmita Rekha Bora, the standard XI student of the Kendriya Vidyalaya, Khanapara, Guwahati, has implemented her idea to trap the microwave radiation emitting from cell phones and transformed the same into heat energy to be used to charge the cell phone battery. Her father is Arup Bora, an officer at the Geological Survey of India, posted at Guhawati.
She demonstrated her concept through a crude model that she made with the help of her physics teacher Devangshu Dev at the recently concluded Jawaharlal Nehru Science Exhibition held in Chennai during 13 and 14 October. K. V. Sanghatana, the organization that conducts this annual exhibition, awarded her the second prize for her contribution in the exhibition. The judges of the exhibition were from the IIT, Chennai. When asked about the perceived idea, Ashmnita replied in simple and truthful way. While surfing the web in the internet, she came across the information of microwave ill effects of the mobile phones, she told the media. Her thinking mind made her think to save the emitted radiation, which otherwise is mere waste. She confided the idea to her teacher Mr. Dev, and the crude protocol was made.
NCERT has selected this model for a major exhibition to be held sometimes in 2010, she informed. She expects to have a better outcome from that show for an opportunity to attend bigger scientific show in Moscow. If she gets a chance to display her idea in the Moscow Show, then possibly she would be able to make it a commercially viable.
