This book on Heat and Thermodynamics is primarily intended for students pursuing degree in Sciences of Indian Universities though it can be used as a reference book by any Science student requiring explanations in a lucid style to basic concepts of Heat and Thermodynamics.
The subject matter in this book is divided into eight chapters.Much of the elementary material which the students have been familiarised in the higher secondary level are not included. The material is presented in a comprehensive way and the sequence of articles in each chapter enables the student to understand the development of the subject.
The chapter on thermodynamics includes a large number of topics viz., The Laws of Thermodynamics, concept of heat,Maxwell's thermodynamic relations, practical working ofr heat engines, refrigerators and the concept of negative temperatures besides others. The highlight is equal emphasis is also given to chapters concerning thermometry, specific heat, kinetic theory, liquefaction of gases, production of low temperatures, pyrometry and heat transmission which are fundamental concepts of Heat and Thermodynamics.
The book is also replete with diagrams illustrating the principles given in the book.To make it an everyday application the book is rendered with example and exercise numerical problems which enables the Science learner to get a firm grip on the subject.
A comprehensive word index at the back makes the search of a concept or phenomenon simple and fast.
Personally I feel this is the best book in the Indian market for undergraduate science students and also a handy reference book for the advanced researcher
