Manual of Applied Mechanics

Book Summary   by:vino     Original Author: William Rankine
ª

Write your abstract

here.Mechanics deals with forces and their
effects

on the body on which they act.Forces causes a body to

change it's state of rest to a state of motion. There

are different types of forces depending on the number

of forces acting on a body and depending on the
direction

in which they act. Some of the foces act on a body in
the

same direction and some forces act in the opposite

direction. Some foces acts on a body at an angle.Forces

have magnitude and different forces have different

magnitudes.Force causes a body to move from one place

to another as a result work is done by the body.Energy

is the capacity of a body to do work.Potential energy

is the energy which a body has when it is at rest.

Kinetic energy is the energy that a body has when

it is in motion.Power is the rate at which work is

done.

Efficiency is measure of the amount of useful work
done by a body. The force applied on a body should be
fully utilised by the body in doing work for complete
effciency.Sometimes the force applied on a body is
is not fully utilised by the body it is wasted away
in the form of friction this leads to inefficiency.
