Animals try owning protection form their enemies with alert.
Adaptation for protection
Animals living under water also have their own unique ways of protection. The cuttlefish has an ink sac on its body. When in danger, it releases ink. Thus, the water around it becomes blue. They enemy cannot see any thing and fish flees away.
Each and every animal has some special qualities or some special structures in it are boo protecting itself from its enemies. Protection from enemies is very necessary for its survival.
Some animals run very fast and thus save their lives from their enemies. They have very strong legs. Deer, kangaroo, Etc. are such types of animals that protect themselves from their enemies by running fast.
Animals like elephant and hippopotamus have huge bodies. Their size scares away most of their enemies.
Turtles and snails have hard shell over their soft bodies which protest them from their enemies.
Some animals have the capability to merge with their surroundings. The chameleon can change its colors to blend with its surroundings Animals like Zebras and tigers have stripes on their bodies. So they cannot be spotted easily in the forest. The stick insect appears just like a twig. Therefore, it cannot be spotted easily by birds. The polar bear and arctic fox have white furs that match with the snow.
Animals like buffaloes and cows have horns for self-Defence.
Different animals eat different kinds of food. They have special body parts which help them eat their food. On the basics of their food habits, animals can be classified as – herbivores, carnivores, omnivores, scavengers and parasites.
Herbivores
Animals like deer, cow and horse eat only plants and grass. They are called `herbivores’ or `herbivorous’. They have sharp front teeth to bite grass and plants. They have very strong grinding teeth. It is because they have to chew the plants and grass a lot because of a substance is called ` cellulose’ found implants.
Carnivores
Animals like tiger, lion, snake and lizard eat flesh of other animals. They are called ` carnivores’ or carnivorous animals. They have very sharp teeth for tearing flesh. Birds like eagles and owls are included in this class. They have a hooked beak and sharp claws to catch their prey.
Omnivores
Some animals like crow and bear eat plants as well as the flesh of other animals. These animals are called ` omnivores’ or omnivorous animals’. Human beings are also omnivores.
Scavengers
Scavengers are the carnivorous animals that feed on the flesh of dead animals. Hyena, hawk, vulture, etc. are scavengers.
Parasites
Some animals depend on other living things for their food. These animals are called ` parasites’. Mosquito, leech, flea, etc. are parasites. They have a sucking tube in their mouth with which they suck the blood of other animals.
Parasitic animals live on or inside their host. A `host’ is the animal on which a paretic animal depends. Fleas, lice, etc. live on the body of their host. Tapeworms, roundworms and hookworms live inside the host animal’s body.
