Haridwar is a famous pilgrimage

Book Review by: Archana chouhan

Original Author: Archana
In the eyes of Hindus ( Indians) , Haridwar is a famous pilgrimage. This is the place where the Ganges after finishing
its hilly trip descends the mountains and enter the plains. From this place to its mouth ( where it falls into the sea) whatever town and cities are situated on the bank of this majestic river, Haridwar is the first.
It is a very ancient city. Formerly it covered an area of three square miles and half. The ruins of a very big fort and many splendid temple are still clearly visible near the present habitation.
The whole city is situated at the foot of the mountain on the right bank of the river. On the left side4 of the river stands a temple which books very beautiful when seen from a distance.
At hardwar one or two fairs are always held every month : but the Baishakhi fair is held with great pomp and show every year.
About a lac or a lac and a half of pilgrims assemble on this occasion. Where one sees plains now , tents are pitched up there.
Bazaars run miles long, and business worth lacs of rupees is conducted.
IN THE HINDU REGION HARIDWAR IS THE PLACE OF LORD SHIVA
