This
paper looks at the
characters in "On the Road" and their pursuit of "IT"; the ultimate feeling of
ecstasy and freedom which among other things they chase through
drugs, sex, alcohol, and
jazz music in their wanderings across the United States. The paper shows how, although some characters come close, in the end every search for ecstasy ends in disillusionment.
