George Orwell wrote "Animal Farm" as a political satire on Soviet
communism. It relates the history of Soviet communism through
the events on a farm actioned by the farm animals and the human beings they interact with. This paper explores the
economic perspective of this novel, specifically what economic system operated on the farm, how this economic system operated and whom the system benefitted (or placed at a disadvantage). The paper shows that by studying the novel with these parameters in mind, one can obtain a comprehensive understanding of Orwell's opinions on the economics of
communism and totalitarianism.
