The book is about a boy(named ponyboy)struggling to get through life because he is a greaser (poor person). The
socials (rich people) are not nice to him. Almost all the greasers get beat up because of the socials. In the process his best friend ends up killing somebody out of self defence. They have to run away because of killing this social (bob). When ponyboy was away eating with the friend that killed the soc (short for social) (friend is named jhonny), the run-down church they were staying in set on fire. They ran back and discovered kids were inside it. They went into save them. Jhonny died while in the hospital after that. Ponyboy lived. His best friend was killed saving another life. In the end ponyboy is the one who actually wrote the book.In this book the characters become your friends and you feel for them. Like you are them. It is a good book, but thats just my opinion. This book teaches you to cherish what you have, because one day it might be gone.
