character of Oedipus from Sophocles's "Oedipus the King", which is a tragic play in which Oedipus discovers that he killed his father, as prophesied by the gods, and married his own mother, with whom he has two daughters. It discusses how these events shaped his character and eventually led to his and his family's downfall.
