Could You, Should You
Self-
Publish a Picture Book? is a detailed
step by step guide on self-
publishing in general and self-publishing children’s
books in particular. When the author began thinking about self-publishing her children’s book Dripping Dan the Wild-Hair Man, there were few detailed self-publishing guides. Most of these guides were fairly general in scope and therefore had very little information relating specifically to publishing children’s books. The author had to do a good deal of research, ask questions, and learn through trial and error. This book encompasses all of the knowledge and wisdom gained by the author as she started Aboon Books and successful published her children’s picture books. The author includes sections dispelling the myths of self-publishing and lists the questions any potential self-publisher should ask before they take on this endeavour. The author also lists, in extremely good detail, the steps to self publishing. Furthermore, these aspects relate information above and beyond the realm of most books on self-publishing by examining specifics such as budgeting costs; discussing various printing and binding alternatives; and looking at self-promotion online, in schools, and in local libraries. Much of the information contained in Could You, Should You Self-Publish a Picture Book? is completely novel. Information in this book is organized step by step taking the reader from the very basics of self-publishing to intricacies usually only learned through extensive trial and error. Though this book is aimed specifically at those thinking about self-publishing their children’s picture books, I believe that any author thinking about self-publishing their
writing will also find a good deal of helpful information in this guide.
