What Every Preacher Should Know

Book Review by: Dr_Tami_Brady

Original Author: Forrest Moore
What Every Preacher Should Know is essentially a handbook that the author uses in his ministry class. As one would expect,
this work is heavy on scripture, quoting the Bible as the only true source of knowledge. Topics include Pulpit Etiquette (reminder ministers that they are the earthly representations of God and therefore should live a life beyond reproach), General Etiquette (including accepting engagements and how to act when attending social events), and Homiletics (creating a sermon that has a smooth and orderly flow through use of the included outline format). The Homiletics section is of particular note as the author has included explanations of the types of the types of sermons to present based upon your specific message. This section also includes countless examples of each of these different focuses so that the reader really gets a good sense of how to modify and create like presentations based upon his or her own congregational needs. The final two sections are also quite exceptional and will be particularly useful for those new to ministering. These sections include quick reference notes for everything from presiding over a funeral and administering a Baptism though dedicating a home and conducting a business meeting to reference facts on the various versions of the Bible and basic terms used in other belief systems.
