The first in a
trilogy penned by Elizabeth Lowell,
it starts you on an adventure that is mixed with
magic,
love, sex and
war. Elizabeth Lowell is best known for her
romance novels, however
this trilogy is more than just romance.
First of all, it introduces you to the characters that will fill all
three books and it starts you on an adventure full of knights in
battle, ladies with magic and an intriging story that is woven into all
three books. While this book, as each in the trilogy, can stand alone,
it is best to read them in order. Untamed, Forbidden and Enchanted. For
those of you who like romance novels, this will be very exciting. For
those of you who scoff at romance, this may very well change your mind.
Dominic Le Sabre is a bastard with no title or land to call his own.
But through the honor of battle, his king grants him land and a wife of
high born name. But it isn''t as easy as all that. If it were, there
wouldn''t be a story. Instead, in a land full of war and despair, land
is held by your sword and strength instead of by title. And Dominic
isn''t the only one who wants to wed the Lady Margaret and gain land and
title. Duncan of Maxwell also wants the chance. Who will win?
Lady Meg also has a desire. A desire for
peace in her war torn land.
But Meg is a Glendruid witch. A witch with a curse. For time long since
past, the Glendruid witches found it almost impossible to bear
children. Only matches made in true love could bear children, and even
then, the child was a female. No male heirs were born. It was said that
only when the Glendruid Wolf came to the land and claimed it in peace
could the curse be broken. Lady Meg knew that if she did not make the
right choice then her land and her people would suffer and die before
the next winter. The land and the people needed peace and healing. Not
battling knights. But no matter who she chose, all she saw in the
future was more war. Even with her Glendruid powers to heal could not
save her people. Who would she chose and would it be the right choice?
This book is well done in the
fantasy genre as well as the romance. The
characters are strong and well written. The dialog is witty, fast paced
and believable. The plot pulls you in and holds you. I will put in a
warning for those who dislike graphic sexual scenes. This book contains
many. Romance at it''s finest, the intimate scenes are well written and
well placed. It is not pornographic. However, it is also very detailed.
So be forwarned. It does contain a great deal of sex in it.
This first book is a great kick off to the trilogy and left me wanting
more. I read all three books straight through and have read them many
times since. A wonderful blend of fantasy and romance. Lowell has done
a wonderful job of stepping out of the usual romance cliche with this
set. I wish she would write more in this style. So get comfortable, get
a cup of tea and settle back to be excited and thrilled.
