This paper deals with the
geoscience application of using seismic
data to gain information about
strata layers, particularly with the intent of locating
oil-rich deposits. Seismic
stratigraphy involves analyzing the reflected patterns of elastic waves that have bounced off of sub-surface rock layers. The paper pays particular attention to significant technological progress that one of it's main applications has made in the the exploration of
hydrocarbon which is of particular interest to the large
petroleum industries.
