paper explains that a new knowledge-based economy of
learned individuals and organizations has evolved from the machine-based economy, which dominated the 20th century. This paper explains that, if a company is to continue on an uninterrupted path toward effectiveness in the marketplace, the knowledge must be managed and
maintained within the company walls even when key people choose to exercise other employment options. The paper stresses that a method for developing and
managing the knowledge within an organization is
mentoring, which matches a new recruit or new hire with an experienced, successful employee in order to facilitate the
