Like many other people, I’ve commented that Windows Vista, the nextversion of Microsoft’s cash cow, borrows heavily from
Mac OS X in lookand features. Yet it’s also very clearly Windows, its essentialcharacter unchanged.I found these notes(via digg.com) from an intriguing trade-show
panel that featuredex-Apple and ex-Microsoft
software designers, discussing how Mac OS Xand Vista came into existence. I can’t remember ever seeing Apple andMicrosoft engineers on a single panel, and I find their commentsextremely interesting. As you’ve probably always suspected, Apple creates software with thedesign first; Microsoft begins with the engineering. Anyway, the notesmake fascinating reading.
