Color Therapy And Its Effect On Thoughts, Attitude And Health
Color is perhaps one of the most wonderful experiences
that we take for granted. Take a look around. Color is everywhere, surrounding and embracing us. We interpret life as much through color as we do through shape, texture and sound.
Colors affects our daily life in many ways. For example:
- The red light at the traffic catches our attention and signals danger.
- We feel refreshed when we visit green pastures
- We feel relaxed when we visit the blue seas
- A dark room (black color) gives us a feeling of mystery and fear
- A painted white room gives us a feeling of newness and cleanliness
If color has an effect on our lives, what therapeutic effect will it have on patients?
Color Therapy is a holistic and non-invasive therapy that involves use of colors for treating various physical ailments and emotional disturbances. Color Therapy uses a set of principles to create harmonious color and color combinations for healing. Color Therapists believe that each organ and body system has its own characteristic energy, and disorders can be healed by applying color of the corresponding energy, either to the whole body or to the organ concerned.
Colors are visible light energy of certain wavelengths. Photoreceptors in the retina, called cones, translate this energy into colors. The retina contains three kinds of cones: one for blue, one for green, and one for red. We perceive other colors by combining these colors.
Throughout our lives, we are surrounded by a sea of colors. Colors affect our emotions and well being. Shades of blue, for example, are restful and can be used to help lower blood pressure, improve sleep and to reduce pain perception. In contrast, exposure to red light tends to have the opposite effect and can cause raised blood pressure and feelings of stress as it triggers the release of adrenaline.
Correct use of colors can bring in the right atmosphere and even attitude to your life and work.
Here are some of the colors and their uses:
The color YELLOW stimulates our minds. It is a great color for study room.
The color BLUE is calming, relaxing and soothing. It is a great color for bedroom
The color WHITE represents emptiness, space and cleanliness. It is a great color for bathroom. Never use it for study room.
In summary, Color Therapy does has an effect on a person's thought, attitude and even health. Correct usage of colors can bring even peace to your everyday life.
