Effects of Long-term No-tillage Ridge Culture on Soil Properties of Paddy Field

Article Abstract by: TsingHua

Original Author: Journal of Soil Water Conservation
Based on data obtained from actual measurements in a long-term fixed experimentfield, this paper studied the effects of no-tillage
ridge culture on soil quality properties of paddy fields. The results indicated that no-tillage with ridge culture of paddy field was advantage to the formation of soil structure, the aggregation rate of < 0.01 mm soil particle increased, the ratios of the content of >0.01 mm organic microaggregate and the content of >0.01 mm iron-alumina and organic microaggregate increased in a different degree, the contents of >0.01mm inorganic microaggregate and calcium-magnesium and organic microaggregate lowered significantly. After the paddy field having been cropped under no-tillage ridge culture for 10 years, the content of surface soil layer organic matter increased, the content of organic matter in 0~10 cm soil layer was 4.75%, it was more than traditional horizontal cultivation's by 41.1%, more than paddy field and dry land rotation's by 51.3%, and increased 89.0% than the content of soil organic matter before experiment. With the increasing of depth of soil layer, the content of soil organic matter of all treatments lowered. Compared with traditional horizontal cultivation and paddy field-dry land rotation cultivation, the content of N, P and K of soils under no-tillage culture increased significantly, the soil body formation was ameliorated also.
