This paper examines how children these days spend more time watching TV or playing video games than any other
activity save
sleeping and how most studies so far indicate that video games can have both positive and negative effects on children, depending on the time spent in the
activity and the type of video games played. It details these affects such as giving the child a good introduction to the use of computers and stress relief as well as the promotion of violence and the increase of obesity and weight problems through
inactivity. It concludes with recommendations for parental intervention and the social responsibility of the manufacturers in order to control these phenomena.
