This paper explains that ATM technology provides very high performance and high speed
networking via hardware switching,
dynamic bandwidth and
scalability and it helps to implement backbone solutions for both private and public networks. It also show how it simplifies network management, but there are no real standards available as yet and there are serious inefficiencies when an intermediate switch drops.
