The
analysis concerned the failure of field bolted connections of SIN profiles
constituting the main load-bearing
system of a commercial and institutional
building with an area of 14,000 m2.
The rupture of bolts subjected to a maximum tensile stress caused that the
spacing between the girders increased to 6 mm. A decrease in the boundary load
bearing
capacity of the structure was attributable to a decrease in the rotational
stiffness of the field bolted joints. The replacement of bolts was not
sufficient to restore the system load bearing capacity. By studying the causes
of this failure, it was possible to draw conclusions concerning the
corrugated web girders. The final suggestions included placing the reinforcement and
improving the connection system.
