BACKGROUND:There are many therapies in the treatment of prostate hyperplasia; however, there are not many data available
about the treatment of Traditional Ch inese Medicine(TCM).OBJECTIVE:To observe the inhibition reaction of Beilong compound enema in pros tate hyperplasic rat.DESIGN:A randomized controlled prospective study was conducted.SETTING and PARTICIPANTS:This study was completed in the Integrated Department of TCM and Western Medicine,The Second Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University.Su bjects were 70 SD rats with a body mass of (240±10) g provided by Center for Ex perimental Animals,Shaanxi Institution of Traditional Chinese Medicine.INTERVENTION:Prostate hyperplasic rat model was prepared. Rats were randomly g rouped into control and medication(with different strength) group.10.8,5.4 and 2 .7 g/kg of Beilong compound enema were given
respectively in medication groups a nd the positive control group was treated by 0.3 g/kg of the content in Longbish u capsule.The inhibition reaction in prostate hyperplasia was observed.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:Serous
testosterone,wet mass of prostate and the changes of prostate index.RESULTS: Prostate mass and index significantly increased in model group compar ed with that of control group.The prostate wet mass of model group and Beilong(2 .7 g/kg) group were (597.8±101.1) mg and (374.2±49.7) mg respectively; serous testosterone were (65.978±2.380) ?g/L and (53.948±52.819) ?g/L respectively, and prostate index were (2.33±0.4) and (1.41±0.2) respectively,which indicate d that Beilong compound enema could lighten prostate wet mass(t=6.16, P< 0.01), significantly inhibit prostate hyperplasia and decrease testosterone level(t=10. 72,P< 0.01) in rats.CONCLUSION:Beilong compound enema has preventive and therapeutic reactions in prostate hyperplasic rat.
