Airtel intros GPS navigation

Bharti Airtel has launched GPS-based navigation application in collaboration with Wayfinder Systems AB of Sweden.

The application turns any compatible cell phone into a GPS-based navigation system with detailed maps and points-of-interest of a number of cities in India. The navigation system provides users with updated, real-time content and geographical data via the wireless network using EDGE/GPRS.

To begin with, the application will be available on BlackBerry 8800. The Airtel user can avail map information and area coverage details of several cities including Delhi and NCR, Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Chandigarh.

Airtel users will also have the option to purchase map information and area coverage details of Europe and North America. Sanjay Gupta, Chief Marketing Officer, Mobile Services, Bharti Airtel said, "As market leaders, we are at the forefront of bringing pioneering solutions that delivers greater value and enhances the communication experience of all Airtel users. We are now introducing in India, a state of the art GPS based navigation system that will largely benefit all frequent travelers using compatible mobile handsets like BlackBerry 8800.

" Airtel is offering a six months free trial to all its BlackBerry 8800 customers. Under the offer, the customer will not have to pay any subscription charges on the application during this period. However, data download charges will apply as per the subscriber''s BlackBerry plan.
