Condemned Schools

Article Summary by: blufairy

Original Author: Jagom

A school is said to be a child’s second home but what if the building is condemned. Some
school buildings are so old that they appear to be on the verge of falling apart; others may be not as old but are built with substandard materials. The lack of classrooms, however, has forced the continued use of these decrepit buildings.
How can the school be conducive for learning if we feel uncomfortable and uneasy?
Added to this fact is the great number of students who are crowded in the four corners of the classrooms. The danger is right in every nook. Because of the weak foundation of the building, it cannot hold the capacity of the growing number of students.
Worst, other students just feel contented having their classes under the shade of the trees, classrooms without ceilings, and others are obliged to bring their own  tables and chairs to school, since the tables and chairs that the school provide are said to be of poor condition and may pose a hazard to users. And one thing; there’s also no access to electricity, no running water and very few toilet.
Teachers themselves have also been identified as part of the problem. Very few teachers can teach the major subjects like Math and Science. This lack of teaching competence explains why many graduates are totally unprepared in the complex world. The quality of education has deteriorated fast.
How can we now say that the youths are the hope of the nation if they themselves are not ready and not fully equipped to face their own future?
