Astrological Allegories or Mediated Spirituality
The lecture will address the New Age's relationship to nineteenth
century occultism and the preparation for the spiritualization of telecommunications.
Catherine Liu is an associate professor in the Department of Cultural Studies and Comparative
Literature and in the Department of French and Italian at the University of Minnesota and Visiting Faculty at Bard College.
Her interests include literary
theory and history, or the production of the modern subject in conjunction with the advent of the modern novel, historiography and history of psychoanalysis (with an emphasis on the Lacanian movement), conspiracy theory, group psychology, Asian and Asian-American culture, film and literature, modernity and its others, autobiography and the formation of minority identity.
