This paper looks at the role of the
narrator in both these novels and shows their similarities. In each story the
leading
character forfeits his life for violating a law. In spite of this common bond, the author believes that the
leading characters do differ from each other in important ways. He finds that Poe's character has a vivid, morbid imagination while London's character has none at all.
