This paper examines three stories and compares the different relationships existing between John Milton's God and Satan from
"Paradise Lost", Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein" and his monster, and Joseph Conrad's Marlow and Kurtz from "Heart of Darkness". The paper shows how the reader is able to
compare the concept of
having a God complex versus having knowledge - two of the three books do not mention a God and the third one does thus making it easier to separate them out and compare the underlying theme.
