This paper
looks at why many critics claim that there is no real purpose for the episode with Grendel's mother in the
poem
"Beowulf" except to exemplify the killing-of-kin vengeance code. It
looks at the way that she is represented throughout the
poem and if she has any contribution to the main theme of "Beowulf".
