The focus of this study is on the Texas state prisons and the
education system in the State prisons. Before analyzing the
effects of the Texas
education system on
recidivism in Texas, the paper provides a general overview of the Texas criminal justice system and the general theories of rehabilitation. Furthermore, there is a discussion of the theory of education as a way of reducing recidivism. The paper investigates whether the Texas prison education system works in reducing recidivism. The case study of the Project RIO that is initiated by the State government which illustrates the fact that education system has to be combined with other strategies in order for the rate of recidivism to decline.
