The paper attempts to
provide greater insights into perceptions on the part of individuals that may explain some of the most
ardent opposition to proposals for legal restrictions on the possession of hand guns in the United States. The writer also looks to
provide a basis for the formulation of gun control
legislation that might be more acceptable to the more effective opponents of such legislation.
