This paper discusses George Orwell's novel, "1984" in terms of what
suppressing natural desires has to do with maintaining
the Party's power, why the Party manipulates
history, why it's important to the leadership that history is suppressed and human memory is manipulated, and why the Party has an interest in
suppressing imagination.
