This paper compares Saul Bellow's definition of
happiness in his novel, "Henderson the Rain King", with the concept of happiness
laid out in the United States Declaration of Independence. The paper looks at the similar
philosophies on
happiness in both of the writings and points out that these philosophies are based on the optimism and faith that human beings are inherently decent.
