This paper examines Virginia Woolf's "Orlando: A Biography", in which the
title character develops over a period of 350 years.
In particular, it looks at how, through a
literature review, the book lampoons the literature of England from the Renaissance to Modernism with irony, while incorporating the title character's gender
change without any apparent change in intellectual ability or emotional sensibility.
