This paper examines how an understanding of the magnitude of the
themes and ideas contained within Shakespeare's "Hamlet"
presents a challenge to analysis and investigation. In particular, it looks at how one of the most resonant
themes is the motivating and transforming power of death and how to truly understand Hamlet's nature and motivations one must look not only at his behavior but also his avowals, his inner confusion so evident in his moments of doubt and dismay.
