Anne Moody was born to poor African-American
parents in Mississippi in the early 1940s. Her parents were hard-working people,
but jobs were scarce for blacks in Mississippi during this era. This paper shows that, from her
parents, Moody learned a strong work ethic, and it became a major theme of her life, as well as of her autobiography, entitled, "Coming of Age in Mississippi".
