HUNDREDS of Myanmar
workers are being hired for airport construction, the hotel
business and other projects in Doha, the capital of Qatar in the Middle East. A Yangon-based
company is hiring
general and
skilled workers to travel to Doha, in the Persian Gulf, next month. "They are now hiring general workers and skilled workers from Myanmar, especially air-con technicians and electricians," said the owner of the manpower company. The company has already sent workers in collaboration with Qatar Company, the Sharq Village Spa and Doha Company. The skilled workers include plumbers, heavy truck drivers, welders and mechanics. Both men and women can apply for the Doha jobs. "They hire Myanmar workers because they are hard working, diligent and have perseverance," said an official from the Ministry of Labour. He said the workers for airport construction and the hotel business are divided into two groups because the hotels want to hire highly educated workers and skilled staff. Another company involved in sending workers to Doha is the Victory Shipping Company. Managing director U Htin Aung Thwin said they recently began sending skilled staff to Doha, although they have sent general workers in the past. "They need not only skilled workers, but also general workers such as public area cleaners and security guards for the hotel business," he said. He said that all staff and workers have to sign contracts for two years. After working in Doha for two years, they will get paid leave and free air tickets to Myanmar. They can also renew their contracts if they want to work there more than two years.
