This essay is a discussion of three films: Slacker, Boyz N The Hood and Clueless as a genre of youth films. It considers
their similarities and differences, how the form of each film influences its meaning, and what these films attempt to say about social relations (e.g. class, race, gender) in the U.S. in the 1990s.
