Why did England and Spain come out as the
colonial superpowers - as opposed to other colonizing
nations in their era? This
paper argues that the predominant historical evidence suggests that the reason for this dominance was twofold - Spanish and the English dominated the seas and the land, militarily, in the way that other European
nations such as the French did not; and British and Spanish nations were both more unified.
