This paper
discusses how the 'balance of power,' between Russia and the United States, as unstable as it may be, became the
Cold War. The paper gives an historical overview of the events leading up to the Cold War such as the Kremlin's intentions concerning Italy, Iran, Greece as well as Communism as a whole. It describes the
effects of the use of the atom bomb by the United States in Hiroshima. It also
discusses the Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan and their effects on the situation.
