This paper examines select elements of the Great Depression in the United States. Initially, the economic crash, its global nature and initial tentative responses are outlined. Then Roosevelt's New Deal is examined. Finally, Roosevelt as a politician, particularly his use of radio and its emergence as the national media are considered.
