paper argues that the United States should have used other
alternatives to end the war with Japan in 1945 and that it
only dropped the atom bomb due to internal and external pressures. The
paper offers several
alternatives, such as showcasing the power of the atomic bomb in a non-combat demonstration and the modification of U.S. demand for unconditional surrender.
