This paper presents a review of "Islam and the West" by Bernard Lewis by examining each of the different sections in the
book. The paper talks about Lewis' theme that it is very difficult to study a
culture that has few roots in the culture of the researcher and that both cultures look at each other from a xenophobic point of view. The paper concludes that "Islam and the West" is an important book that should be part of high school and college studies in world
history.
