WORDS TO LIVE BY TO BECOME HAPPY AND IN HARMONY WITH THE
ENVIRONMENT “Keep your thoughts
positive, because your thoughts
become your words. Keep your words positive, because your words become your
behavior. Keep your behavior positive, because your behavior becomes your habits. Keep your habits positive, because your habits become your values. Keep your values positive, because your values become your destiny.” Excerpt from the Soka Gakai International’s philosophy of life. What we are supposed to know is that this quotation has something to do with our destiny. It all started with the workings of the sixth sense, the mind, after which the message relayed by the sense of sight (eyes) is expressed through the taste sensor (mouth), and then the senses of touch and hearing, and smell do the rest to manifest the behavior. Once the expression of words and actions are put together in mind as permissible and acceptable measure to do what one thinks is right then it is what we call as the values. Lest, the danger here is that if a person does something that can harm or destroy himself, the people around, and the
environment. Best example to this, is the making of nuclear bomb to topple down the enemies. It has become a set of values to design ammunitions and armaments for self-defense sanctioned by the state and the church takes a cool stand. The devastating effect to human lives and environment are not taken cared of and this act is perpetuated for generations in the name of peace, liberty, freedom, and superiority above all nations. There are three poisons in life that have driven man to do this, such as: 1) greed, 2) stupidity, and 3) anger. Did we have the chance to discern after every passing time if we have tried to carry on everything in a positive manner? Very common happenings are being manifested by our carelessness and taking for granted of undesirable actions or even at the utmost unguarded moments not conscious about the effect for every cause. There is a law that governs the causality of all phenomena of life “LAW OF CAUSE AND EFFECT”. The creation of the earth and other planets in the universe underwent the workings of this LAW. Which according to scientists, it all started with the dusts. That in millions and millions of years of whirling turbulence the dusts formed into big spherical objects which came to collide “big bang” with one another and causing to form other objects which later known all of them as planets in the solar system. The sun at the center is a big ball of fire with extreme eternal heat set at a pace enough to provide energy to planet earth. The earth likewise was once blazing and underwent a cooling process then a thick cloud caused the pouring of rain which enveloped planet earth with water. Continuous volcanic activities caused the rise of earth crusts to form plains and mountains. Hence, a life form of a nucleus cell had started to develop. We noticed that there are reports of some fusel remains on high level lands. Evolution played a great role in the changes of that life form that after the crisis of dinosaurs caused by volcanic eruptions and scarcity of food the evolution of an ape to the feature of a human being was remarkable. This is the incredible work of art of the MYSTIC LAW. Creation is not done in six days and rested on the seventh day. According to science, the earth had undergone the process of formation, continuity, decline and disintegration. This is similar to the teaching of Nichiren Daishonin, the true Buddha, during the FORMER DAY OF THE LAW or DARK AGES when science was not yet at work. In his writings, he said that the earth had experienced past lifetimes and rebirths as all forms of life on earth, as human beings do. Nobody could deny the presence of that LAW in the field of science, aspects and spheres of life. So, either we like it or not, or take it or leave it, all the causes we accumulate every second, minute, and hour are imprinted in the depths of our lives. Thosecauses are shaping the life condition of every person. All add up to what is called karma from the past life times before this present life time, the baggage carried to the here and now through the continuous cycle of rebirth. Karma is explained as the accumulated results of all the causes from periods of life time, both good and bad depending on which is more dominant of the two. This karma manifests the whole appearance of a person, his/her character, and his destiny which makes him/her unique. Somehow one could think why there are misfortunes, miseries and adversities along the way. This life condition can be mirrored to the past life as the saying goes “what you are now is what you were in the past”. For the Buddhist practitioners in the LATER DAY OF THE LAW, it is not enough to be positive in all their ways of doing things. There has to be done very religiously every day which is the assiduous chanting of NAM-MYOHO-RENGE-KYO and doing GONGYO, and enabling others to do the same so that they will also experience the happiness and peace that the Buddha had before his passing.
