This paper explores the origins and history of jazz music from its early beginnings in New Orleans to the more well-known
and popular forms we hear today. The
paper explains how the earlier forms,
known as ragtime and Dixieland, started in the late 1800's and were well formed by the early 1920's. The paper also shows the development of jazz into what we know as blues music today.
