This paper examines how the presence of literature is a central theme throughout "Jane Eyre". It looks at how through an analysis of the scenes in which
certain characters are reading, one can directly determine the extent of the relationship between Jane and a particular character. It shows how consequently, through an examination of the
references made, one is reminded that Jane herself is an author, and how, although the story is a fictional autobiographical, the seemingly obscure references are tools to present the characters in a certain light.
