Planning For A Stress-Free Travel

Website Review by: Mary Rose

When we talk about traveling, usually it is associated with taking a break to relax and release stresses. However, at times,
it can be a stressful experience rather than a relaxing experience. Before you even take off, you are confronted with issues such as where to go, how long should be the trip, budget, time of the year etc.. I believe you have experience all these issues before. Nevertheless, traveling is still a wonderful thing and you should not let all the preparations deter you from taking one.  To overcome these issues, below are some suggested points you can take note.
Planning is a must whether you are going with a tour group or free-and-easy. To go with a tour group, the hassle is lesser. However, you will still need to plan ahead with respect to the season, duration, places etc. as these will affect how much you will spend and whether can you leave your office for at extended period. If you plan to go on your own, you will need more planning.  This is because, you will need to book your own air tickets, accommodation, land tours, visa etc.  You have to coordinate all these activities yourself. With the internet, all these can be done easily.  You can how book your flight, hotels, tours and accommodation at the comfort of your home with your internet. With e-ticketing, you do not need to collect your ticket at the tour agency.  The airline will send the e-ticket right up to your email inbox. You will just need to print out the e-ticket and you are done. The best part is, you can even choose your flight seats while booking.
If you are not traveling with a tour group, you will also need to know about the transportation system.  This will help you to decide which mode of transportation is best for you.  For example, if you find that the train system is too complex to give a try, you can take a taxi, perhaps at a higher price. All these little information will greatly help you to plan your trip and ensure that you will have a good time while in the host country. In some cities, there are bus services ply within the city for free.  You can hop-on and hop-off at places of attraction. This will save you time and the effort of walking.  Bottom line is, plan your trip.
In our lifetime, we usually do not visit a place twice unless you are compelled to do so. Usually, we will try to visit as many countries as possible to enjoy its beauty and scenery.  Due to the unfamiliar places, there is a tendency for you to get lost. To make matter worst, if you do not know the language and the local do not speak your language, the signs and information board will not help much. To overcome this, before you make your trip, go to your local library and borrow some travel books and get yourself family with the places. While it is not advisable to carry huge amount of cash, you will need to carry some with you in case you need to catch a cab back to your hotel. Remember, before you leave your hotel, get a leaflet or brochure of the hotel from the hotel reception.  This will come in handy in case the cab driver does not understand where you want to go. With the hotel information, the cab driver will be able to bring you back to the hotel.
We are leaving in an era where we can communicate almost anytime and anywhere at the stroke of our finger tips. It is best to keep in touch with your family members while traveling. You can send them pictures via your cellular phone, call them, emails and text messages.  In most hotels, internet access is available at a small fee. Therefore, bring your cellular phone along and make sure that you can use it in the host country.
If you are not particular about food, you should try to sample some local cuisine.  This is rather cultural. You may not be able to adept to their taste.  This is understandable.  I remembered while I was on a trip, I was not able to accept their food and I ended up easting chicken burgers for 3 days. For some countries in Asia, some of the foods are very spicy like curry, laksa etc, you got to be very careful when you give a try. Otherwise go for those non-spicy food.
Thank goodness that today, we have digital camera at our disposal.  When you are at the host country, take as many pictures as you can.  It is free after all, unlike the old days where you will need to develop the film. Remember you are not likely to return to the place again. A picture will tell a thousand word and this will also remain you of your good time there. Other tokens you can keep for memories are bus tickets, entrance tickets to attractions, or even a nice napkin from the restaurant (you have to ask permission for this). Get and keep things that are memorable.
